HOTEL DRIP&DROP Myeongdong: Cafe-Style Capsule Hotel in Myeongdong

I recently stayed at HOTEL DRIP&DROP Myeongdong, a newly opened capsule hotel in Myeongdong that launched in August 2024.

The hotel’s concept is simple: drop your luggage, relax, and enjoy a cup of coffee. The lounge is designed like a small café, and they even serve freshly brewed coffee to guests every morning. Here is what my stay was actually like, including a few practical details you may want to know before booking.

One of the biggest advantages of this capsule hotel is its prime location. Situated right at the entrance of Myeongdong, it is just a one-minute walk from Exit 5 of Euljiro-1ga Station (Line 2).

If you are coming from Incheon International Airport, taking Airport Bus 6015 is probably the easiest option. Simply get off at the Royal Hotel (Euljiro-1ga) stop, which is only a short walk away.

Whether you want to explore shopping streets, restaurants, or street food, everything is within walking distance.

A Capsule Hotel Inspired by Coffee

The name “Drip & Drop” comes from the idea of dropping off your luggage and winding down with a warm brew. The owner is clearly passionate about coffee, as the lounge area is designed to feel like a cozy café, giving the property a much more inviting atmosphere than typical capsule hotels.

Every morning starting at 7:30 AM, freshly brewed coffee is provided for free. Since many capsule hotels don’t offer breakfast at all, this small detail was a fantastic touch.

You can easily step outside, buy a sandwich or pastry from a nearby bakery or convenience store, and bring it back to enjoy with your morning coffee. It is a simple and relaxed way to start your day before heading out to explore Seoul.

Check-in Process

When I arrived at the hotel, there was a staff member at the front desk, but I was instructed to complete my check-in using the self check-in machine. To be honest, I didn’t particularly love the idea of using a kiosk when staff were already standing right there, but I followed the instructions.

I booked my stay through Agoda, which was actually cheaper than both the official website and Trip.com. However, when I tried entering my Agoda confirmation number, the machine kept showing an error.

Eventually the staff helped me, and I realized what the issue was.

Important Tip for Agoda or Trip.com Users

The property sends a separate reservation number via text or message, which is completely different from your Agoda or Trip.com confirmation number.

If you book through a third-party site, make sure to check the message sent by the hotel the day before or on the day of your arrival. That message contains the code required for the kiosk and will save you some confusion at check-in.

Entering the Capsule Area

Card-key access door separating the capsule sleeping area

Access to the capsule area is controlled using a card key.

There are two doors that guests must pass through before reaching the capsule section. The card key system separates the male and female capsule areas, which adds an extra layer of privacy and security.

Once you enter this section, you will find the personal locker area where guests can store their belongings. Each guest is assigned a locker, although it is not large enough to fit a full-size suitcase. Larger luggage can instead be placed underneath the lockers.

The hotel has CCTV installed in the common areas, so security generally does not feel like a big concern. However, if you have a cable lock, securing your suitcase can provide additional peace of mind.

Inside the locker, you will find several items prepared for your stay, including plenty of towels, a bottle of water, earplugs, a coffee drip bag, and room slippers.

One small downside was the slipper size. My shoe size is 280 mm, and the slippers felt noticeably small, so guests with larger feet may find them slightly uncomfortable.

From this locker area, there are separate doors leading to the bathrooms and shower rooms, as well as another door that leads to the actual capsule sleeping area.

This layout makes the space feel organized and secure, since only guests with a valid card key can enter the capsule section.

Capsule Room Experience

The capsules have a warm wood-toned design that feels simple yet comfortable, but there are several details worth mentioning.

Capsule Window

One feature I appreciated was the small window inside the capsule that allows you to see outside.

Of course, this window can be completely covered with a blackout curtain when you want privacy or darkness while sleeping. Still, having a window feels much better than being in a completely closed capsule.

Power Outlets

The power outlet inside the capsule supports multiple plug types. Although the voltage in Korea is 220V, devices with US-style or Japanese flat plugs can usually be used without an adapter, which is convenient for international travelers.

Personal Storage Inside the Capsule

There is also a small lockable compartment inside the capsule itself.

If you have valuables such as a laptop, wallet, passport, or phone, you can place them inside and secure the door using the built-in lock.

Capsule Size

Taller guests may find the capsule slightly tight.

I am 178 cm (about 5’10”), and when lying down my feet were almost touching the curtain. If you are taller than 180 cm, your feet may extend slightly beyond it.

Clothes Hanger Placement

One small design issue is the location of the clothes hanger.

It is placed near the head area of the capsule, which can feel a bit awkward when you are trying to sleep. Personally, I think it would have been better if the hanger had been placed closer to the entrance of the capsule.

Noise

Like most capsule hotels, doors opening and closing in the hallway can create some noise.

If you plan to stay for several nights, it may be a good idea to request a capsule located farther away from the main entrance door.

Common Lounge Area

Although the café-style lounge is part of the hotel’s concept, it also turned out to be one of the most useful spaces during my stay.

Instead of staying inside the capsule the whole time, guests can come here to sit comfortably, check their travel plans, or use their laptop for a while.

Having a quiet place outside the capsule made the stay feel much more comfortable, especially in the morning before heading out to explore Myeongdong.

Bathroom and Shower Facilities

The shared bathroom and shower facilities were very clean and well maintained.

The men’s bathroom includes two urinals, two regular toilets, and three private shower booths.

One detail I particularly liked was the shower amenities.

The hotel provides MARMAR;D products, which have a pleasant Hinoki wood scent. The fragrance felt natural and refreshing and made the shower experience feel slightly more premium than what you might expect from a typical hostel.

Hair dryers are also available, but they can be easy to miss at first. They are stored inside waterproof bags underneath the sinks, so it is worth checking below the counter.

Mattress Comfort

Mattress inside the capsule sleeping pod

When I woke up the next morning, my back felt slightly sore.

The mattress here is quite soft, which may not suit everyone’s preference.

During my previous stay at L YOUNG Inn Capsule Hotel in Myeongdong, I did not experience this issue. While this property is clearly superior in terms of location and modern facilities, I personally found the firmer mattress at L YOUNG Inn more comfortable for sleeping.

Rooftop

The rooftop is open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM and smoking is strictly prohibited.

Spending long hours inside a capsule can sometimes feel a little confined, especially in the evening. Being able to step outside, get some fresh air, and enjoy the night view of Seoul was refreshing and a great way to relax before going to sleep.

Overall, HOTEL DRIP&DROP Myeongdong is a stylish and modern capsule hotel with an excellent location in the heart of Myeongdong.

For travelers looking for a convenient Myeongdong capsule hotel, this property offers a clean, modern, and very practical place to stay.
