Step Inn Myeongdong Review: Budget Dorm Stay in the Heart of Myeongdong

Here is my long-overdue review of Step Inn Myeongdong Hotel, where I stayed for one night in March.

Step Inn Myeongdong 4-bed dormitory room
Inside the 4-bed dormitory room at Step Inn Myeongdong

Step Inn Myeongdong is not a capsule hotel. It offers a range of room types, including double rooms, twin rooms, and family rooms. However, one of the options is a Bed in a 4-Bed Dormitory Room, which is what I booked.

Strictly speaking, this dormitory is not a capsule either. But each bed comes with a full curtain, so it still offers a surprising amount of privacy. During my stay, most guests kept their curtains closed and stayed within their own space.

Quick Review Summary

The location is easily one of the biggest advantages of this hotel.
Step Inn Myeongdong sits right in the middle of Myeongdong, between Myeongdong Cathedral and The famous Myeongdong Street Food / Night Market area. It takes less than 1 minute to reach the night market.

Compared to other budget or capsule-style accommodations in the area, this location is hard to beat. Even better, the price remains relatively affordable.

Another standout feature is the free breakfast. Considering the already affordable dormitory price, having breakfast included adds significant value. This was one of my favorite aspects of the stay.

Check-in Experience

Unlike many capsule hotels, Step Inn Myeongdong has a proper front desk with multiple staff members.

Since I recently stayed at several capsule hotels with self check-in systems, having real staff on-site felt noticeably different. At the same time, it made me realize why smaller capsule hotels often operate without staff—it’s all about cost efficiency.

Dormitory Room Layout

My assigned bed was 1403-1.
The hallway features a black-and-white design. It looks clean, but also has a slightly corporate feel.

Inside the room:

  • Access: Tap your key card to enter
  • Layout: The bathroom is on the right, lockers on the left, and four bunk beds are located in the main area

The beds are arranged as two bunk beds on each side, and each bed has its own curtain, providing good privacy.

Bed & Cleanliness

The bedding was exceptionally clean, and extra towels are available at the front desk

Each bed includes 1 towel and Blanket.

The bedding was honestly one of the most pristine I’ve encountered. It felt like the hotel uses a professional laundry service, rather than handling linens in-house. Cleanliness here was genuinely impressive.

Power & Lighting

Each bed comes with a power outlet and personal reading light

Each bed is equipped with Individual reading light and Multi-national power outlet.
Although the outlet supports multiple plug types, keep in mind that the voltage is 220V, so make sure your devices are compatible.

Bathroom (Room for Improvement)

The bathroom includes both the toilet and shower in a compact space.

Basic amenities like shampoo and body wash are provided. However, I noticed mold on the amenity dispensers, which was disappointing. I’m not sure if this applies only to dormitory rooms or other room types as well, but it’s definitely an area that needs improvement.

Since the bathroom is small, hair dryers are placed outside and can be brought in when needed.

Breakfast Experience

The breakfast area at Step Inn Myeongdong

I went down around 9:00 AM, and it was quite crowded. At one point, there were even guests standing while eating due to limited seating, so timing matters if you want a more relaxed experience.

The breakfast includes:

  • Cereal
  • Toast
  • Coffee
  • Eggs
  • Tomatoes
  • Milk
  • Juice

It’s not a fancy spread, but it’s more than enough for a simple and satisfying meal before heading out.

Facilities

Laundry

One feature I really appreciated was the laundry facility.

  • 14th floor: Small washing machine (₩1,000)
→ Suitable for light items like underwear and t-shirts
  • 16th floor: Full-size washing machine
    → Wash: ₩3,000
    → Dryer: ₩3,000 (36 minutes total, ₩500 = 6 minutes)

This is especially useful for longer stays.

Luggage Scale

There is also a large luggage scale in the hallway, which is surprisingly useful. With airlines becoming stricter about baggage limits, it’s a good idea to check your luggage weight before heading to the airport.

Water Dispenser

There is no bottled water provided in the dormitory room. Instead, a water dispenser is available near the elevator entrance. You’ll need your own cup or tumbler.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  1. Excellent location in the heart of Myeongdong
  2. Very clean bedding and friendly staff
  3. Free breakfast included

Cons

The main drawback comes from the room layout.

In most capsule hotels Sleeping area, Bathroom, Shower are separated, which keeps the sleeping space quiet. At Step Inn Myeongdong, everything is in the same room. As a result, noise from late-night showers or bathroom use can directly disturb other guests.

Earplugs can help, but the hotel does not provide earplugs. So it’s best to bring your own if you are sensitive to noise.

Conclusion

My total cost was ₩38,454 (Saturday night).

Considering prime location, excellent cleanliness, and free breakfast, it offers very strong value for money.

If you are a solo traveler, this is definitely a solid option—just make sure to bring earplugs.
